My grandparents were raised in rural Kentucky. They dated by horse and buggy. My grandfather said to a friend after seeing my grandmother for the first time, "See that stout girl over there? I'm gonna marry her."
I didn't remember this, it was a memory recalled by my aunt, their daughter. She has a desire to preserve her memories and their stories of days gone by. They are gone, but she is in the process of writing everything she can recall about her childhood and the stories she heard her parents often repeat.
I beleive keeping our history and our memories alive is important to pass down to our children. Just like I enjoy reading or hearing stories of my grandparents, our children -if not now, someday - will consider our stories a valuable asset.
I wonder, how many of you either record memories one way or another. Do you keep written records, memory books, or photo albums? How do you keep your past alive? Do you want to keep your past alive?
